This hub is dear to me . Or to be precise , the story I share here is dear to me . This little story that I heard from a counselor when I visited the Ramakrishna Matt ( monastery ) has effectively illustrated to me what love for fellowmen really means . Hope you like and cherish it too .This story is a true experience of Swami Vivekananda .

Swamy Vivekananda became pretty famous after this speech on India and Hinduism in the parliament of world's religions held in Chicago on 11th september 1893 . He was followed by many foreign and Indian eminents including mahatma Gandhi . As a honor , Swami was once invited for a dinner by a famous lawyer in America. Swami was also requested to stay back after dinner and leave to India the next morning .

A lavish bedroom with every possible amenity was allotted to Swami for rest . The lawyer was happy that he could receive his guest well .

The next morning , while having breakfast , when the lawyer asked swami whether he had a good sleep ? ; Swami replied that he could not sleep the whole night . Bewildered and worried , the lawyer asked what was the matter ? Was he not received well ? or did he not like the room ? Swami said that that was not the matter . He assured the lawyer that he was very much convinced by the hospitality .

He said that when he got into the room he was very pleased . But everytime he tried to close his eyes, he could only catch sight of the millions of Indian's who were deprived of even the basic amenities . This thought did not allow him to sleep all night .

Nice story .. But did this really happen .. plus Swami was not followed by the Mahatma or nobody .. But he was the one who followed the Indian Spiritual leaders ..Nd he never went to the World religious parliament to speak bout Hinduism .. Do make these corrections ..

sorry .. but I'm very sure that Swamiji went to the parliament to talk abt hinduism .. he also described hinduism as the mother of all the religions . After his exposure in the parliament , he was appreciated and closely followed by many eminents . yes u are right , swami himself followed many Indian spiritual leaders .

Preethi, its no point arguing about what sawamiji did ,on the whole he was a pure soul and was a leader in himself .if you get hold of a Bengali movie of Ramkishan Parmahans or swami Vivekananda you will know lots about hin he was called Naran by Ramkishna and how he transformed his life is amazing

At Chicago, Swamiji's speech made the world respect Hinduism is the fact. No one must deny it if done so

then it's better to delve into the past and have some correct inputs.

Preethi, You are quite aware of the fact so just don't bother.

It is a normal state that a person follows somebody but that can never take away the follower's credibility. In one sentence he was great as his spiritual guru Sri Ramakrishana Paramhansa.

One more thing I wish to add here is that at Chicago meet Swamiji addressed the gathering as "Brothers and Sisters" which brought him spontaneous adulation and his speech on Hinduism made a global impact.

Yes ... exactly ! The way he addressed the mass mattered the most. This shows the power of one's words and humility.
